ARE Adventure Race
Sat, 12.10.2022 · Camp Dippikill, Warrensburg, NY

Details

"BE READY FOR ANYTHING."

The event will NOT be held in 2023.

As such, you must create your own adventure.

ABOUT

Created in 2006, it was exclusively for the crazy ARE-ers staying at Dippikill for the weekend and a chance for them to earn bragging rights for not being afraid to submerge themselves in water under ice, climb trees, and not even know how far they are going. This is NOT a safe event. It is not an event with a "few" obstacles separated by open fields and easy access to help you in an emergency. It's an utterly unnecessary event for which you could be horrifically injured with no need to participate in the first place. Sound like your kind of event? Join us. If not, check out one of our other more normal events.

WHEN

The race isn't happening in 2023. Thank you to everyone who has been part of it!

COURSE

--- A BIT OF EVENT HISTORY ---

OVERVIEW

YOU WILL NOT KNOW THE DISTANCE OF THE RACE UNTIL YOU FINISH IT.

We mostly guarantee that it is between 4 miles and 8 miles. You will encounter no artificial obstacles, but Mother Nature can be a real you know what. Several individuals mark different sections of the course, choosing ANY ROUTE they desire between any points they desire. True 'trails' have no baring on the course. Expect upwards of half the race to be bushwhacking, along with climbing large boulders and even scaling trees, fording nearly frozen swamps, and walking across ice you pray doesn't break. The course is different every year; both in route and length. And again, as no one person is responsible for marking the whole course, not a single person knows the full route NOR distance prior to finishing the race.

CUT-OFFS

There is no formal cut-off, but we do ask that you only choose to participate if you are capable of lifting your own bodyweight and sufficiently fit to potentially withstand several hours outside in the freezing cold. The nature of this event makes it basically impossible to drop-out; you need to TRULY BE READY - which means ideally have winter hiking experience in deep snow.

ON COURSE AID

There is none. Your survival rests in your own hands.
